1.  The latest comments on the book and who made the comment
2.  The latest posts (since some of your latest posts may not show up on the front page if they were from a earlier date)
3. A Login box so you can just go to your baby book and login to your account
4. Most popular posts
5. An Archive (maybe a drop down broken up into years so you can just go straight to when your child is 3 years old)

That's all I can think of right now, but don't let that stop you.  If you have an idea that's not on this list let me know and I'll see if I can work it into some of the new designs.
